Starting out in 1994 as just a 12-year-old Monticello kid with a mower, Scott McFarland grew his hobby and summer job into the full-time, growing company that it is today. Spending his extra time working for a local farm and mowing yards in between, Scott put himself through college, earning degrees in Agri-Business and Landscape Design. With his diplomas in hand, Scott became serious about whether he could make it work in the lawn care industry. In 2004, the same year Scott and his wife, Callie Jo, were married, the business was incorporated and Hedge to Edge, Inc. (H2E) became officially "grown up."
It didn't take long to where Hedge to Edge outgrew the garages and sheds it was using for storage, as well as the dining room at their home. Scott and Callie Jo decided it was time to expand, but still wanted to remain in the Monticello community. The company broke ground in 2008 on a large new facility in Bear Commercial Park, located at the south end of Monticello. The facility houses the offices and equipment, a small nursery for tree and shrub storage, as well as the bulk material bins. Scott also farms the ground directly south of the property, also utilizing the space for test plots with his seed company.
Through the hard work of both Scott and Callie Jo, the family hopes to continue making Hedge To Edge a fixture in the Monticello and Piatt County communities. But the success could not be possible without the hard work and dedication of H2E's amazing employees, the supportive community, and God's grace.
